Yesterday, I went to see the Harlem Globetrotters. The Harlem Globetrotters are a funny basketball team who does amazing tricks. One player on the team is 7 feet and 9 inches tall, and he can dunk without jumping!

Another player is 5 feet and 2 inches tall, and he can make a shot from half court! In one part of the game someone on the Globetrotters climbed on the hoop the other team was shooting on, and then when the team shot it, he kicked the ball across the court! My favorite part was when the referee called out of bounds and then someone demanded a replay, so they made a human replay and did the exact same things they did before.

Dear Collin,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic post about your trip to see the world famous Globe Trotters! No, I don't know why they are called the Harlem Globetrotters. Do tell!
I remember when Scooter came to our school to talk about the ABCs of bullying.
Here is a link to the video of him doing his tricks.
Was he there?
I'm glad you got to go! From the looks of your fabulous photos, you had outstanding seats!
Who did they play against?
Your proud teacher,
Mrs. Y♥llis
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
DeleteI"m going to jump into this comment. You asked who did the globetrotters play? Well they played the Global Select. They are very hard and they were not as funny, but tried really hard to win.
Warmly,
Peter
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteYes, Scooter was there, but instead of "Scooter", his jersey said "B-Nice"! He did not play a lot, but he got the crowd going crazy. He was doing back flips, front flips, and many more stunts.
You asked me to tell why they are called the Harlem Globetrotters. They are actually from Chicago, but they decided to say they were from Harlem to seem more unique, and because they trot the globe.
Do you know anyone that can do some basketball tricks?
Your Friend,
Collin
I was so excited to take my son to the game. We were both jumping out of our seats with all the cool tricks the players could do. I remember going with my dad many years ago and this experience brought back wonderful memories. Thanks for posting this Collin.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Dad

ReplyDeleteGreat that you have had your Dad comment on your blog, he is obviously very proud of you your work and I thought that it was wonderful that he mentioned going with his Dad many years ago.
I didn't know that they were from Chicargo and that the name was choosen to make them seem more unique.
They are world famous, because even though its New Zealand, where I am a teacher, and we live on the other side of the world (well nearly) we have heard of them and know who they are. Its a wonderful recount and great to see the photographs that go with it. what a great time that you had.

Dear Collin,
ReplyDeleteWhat has always amazed me about the Harlem Globetrotters is they give us not only a good game but great entertainment. Their tricks and antics may not be quite right for a normal game but they are amazing.
Isn't it wonderful they aren't all so tall? With one player 5'2" yet a fantastic player it shows you don't need to be 7'9" to play but I think being that tall would help. :)
They have been to Australia at times and I know they amazed Aussies with their skills.

Dear Colin,
ReplyDeleteThe Harlem Globetrotters are very funny! I went to that same Harlem Globetrotters game and they are so weird, funny, and great shooters. Did you see the start of the game when a guy made this comment about the referee, "everyone knows who you are, Shrek!". That was so funny!
One of my favorite parts of the game was when a guy was shooting a free-throw and another player came up behind him and bumped him so he would miss!
What was your favorite part of the game?
Sincerly,
Peter
Dear Peter,
ReplyDeleteI am shocked that so many people went to the same Globetrotter game. I went, you went, Sean went, and Grace went!
You asked if I saw the part of the game when Special K said that the referee was Shrek. I did and I laughed myself out of my chair. My favorite part was when they made the human reply. It was super cool.
Who is your favorite player?
Sincerely,
Collin
Dear Colin,
DeleteThe human reply was the best part of the game! I thought it was so funny I could not even stop laughing! You asked what my favorite Globetrotter is. Well, they are all so funny but, if I had to choose it would be Special K because he is so hilarious. My favorite play was when a player passed the ball to the referee and he threw it back!
Do you know you the final score?
Warmly,
Peter
Dear Collin,
ReplyDeleteI went to a Harlem Globetrotter game two years ago. I got to see the game in a suite. Do you know what a suite is? When I went to go see their game, they did the same thing when they did their instant replay. :D I enjoy watching The Harlem Globetrotters argue with the ref.
How many of their games have you seen?
Sincerely,
Abbey
Dear Collin,
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a Harlem Globetrotters game. I had always wanted to go to a Harlem Globetrotters game, but I never have the time to go drive to the stadium and back. No, I do not know why they are called the Harlem Globetrotters. I like the name.
What kinds of food do they serve at the stadium?
Your friend,
Ryan
Dear Collin,
ReplyDeleteI once saw a Harlem Globetrotters game on TV. It was when Scooter poured a bucket of water on Big Easy. I know that Big Easy doesn't play any more. Special K plays instead of Big Easy now.
Did you know that when Big Easy was in the Harlem Globetrotters and when Scooter poured the water on Big Easy, he wiped his face with one of the fans jacket?
Your friend,
Parsa
Dear Collin,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your interesting and informative blog about your trip to see the Harlem Globetrotters. I thought your comment about them replaying a contested call in exactly the same way was funny, too. I have only seen the Globetrotters on TV many years ago. At that time, they had a player named Meadowlark Lemon. Have you ever heard of him? His antics were hilarious and memorable. I am sure that you will remember your trip to see the Globetrotters for many years to come, too. I am very happy that you had an opportunity to see the entire team play in an arena. You got to see comedy and basketball skills all at the same time.
Love to you always...
Your grandmother,
Marsha
Dear Collin,
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a globetrotter performance, and I therefore read your post with a lot of interest. It is amazing how well they can make baskets. Are the globetrotters former NBA players? I particularly liked the photo you took of the player standing on the basket. He definitely must not be afraid of heights. How did he get up there?
I look forward to reading more great posts from you.
Best,
Victoria
